Path to Progeny

OMG!!! 3 po.....

sorry I did that schtick last post.

I have decided to write a wee post about the steps to progeny. Specifically for myself. There are 3 phases I have come up with. I will attempt to relay them to you.

Phase 1 - Collection

Now you may think I mean collection of kidlets, but this is not the case. Collection refers to the inevitable phase just after you announce to people you are planning to procreate sometime in the future. Family members, friends, or people you barely know, start gifting baby items for you. Case in point, I will soon be the proud owner of a slightly used crib. Very nice model if I do say so myself. Sightly chewed, but the one to live in it won't mind a bit. The plan for progeny is still 3 years away. I think the collection phase can work in your favour, as long as you have storage space. Which brings me to,

Phase 2 - Preparation

This is the phase where you must prepare for the offspring. Things to consider are; Do you have enough baby clothes? Have you stopped drinking? (quite important for the woman, more important for the man to support said woman) Did you take your multivitamin today? Do you have a visible 6 pack or the 6 pack that hides under the layer of storage food for the baby? etc.

Also part of this phase is the "Should you buy a house" plan. This plan is worked into our spreadsheet of awesome, courtesy of the hubby, and the house purchase could be as soon as 2.5 years away. (psst no one is getting christmas presents next year. Kidding!!) Also in the search for a house is the search for a rental that has enough storage space (ie: basement/garage) to store all of the items gathered in Phase 1. This preparation is presently ongoing. Basement may soon be procured.

Phase 3 - HAVE THE BABY!!!

I'm told this is the fun and excruciating part. Then you get to use up all the items from phases 1 and 2 and you can happily contribute to someone else's Phase 1 after said items have diminished in value for the parents, or the kidlet.

Unless you're planning progeny #2. Things should be kept for a modicum of time, possibly a year, before they are considered "used" and "unworthy" and "HOLY CRAP! There's a BASEMENT under here!" boxes.

Thanks for tuning into the Path to Progeny. Stay tuned for next week's episode "How to get a haircut!"

V-Day

OMG!!! 2 blogposts in a week!

I hope you all didn't just fall over from shock. I just re-certed my first-aid so if you're now in cardiac arrest please call me and I'll activate EMS for you!!
Today is Valentine's day. Wikipedia (not the greatest source) states in it's romantic version of history that:

Saint Valentine of Terni and his disciples.
The Early Medieval acta of either Saint Valentine were expounded briefly in Legenda Aurea.[16] According to that version, St Valentine was persecuted as a Christian and interrogated by Roman Emperor Claudius II in person. Claudius was impressed by Valentine and had a discussion with him, attempting to get him to convert to Roman paganism in order to save his life. Valentine refused and tried to convert Claudius to Christianity instead. Because of this, he was executed. Before his execution, he is reported to have performed a miracle by healing the blind daughter of his jailer.
Since Legenda Aurea still provided no connections whatsoever with sentimental love, appropriate lore has been embroidered in modern times to portray Valentine as a priest who refused an unattested law attributed to Roman Emperor Claudius II, allegedly ordering that young men remain single. The Emperor supposedly did this to grow his army, believing that married men did not make for good soldiers. The priest Valentine, however, secretly performed marriage ceremonies for young men. When Claudius found out about this, he had Valentine arrested and thrown in jail.
There is an additional modern embellishment to The Golden Legend, provided by American Greetings to History.com, and widely repeated despite having no historical basis whatsoever. On the evening before Valentine was to be executed, he would have written the first "valentine" card himself, addressed to a young girl variously identified as his beloved,[17] as the jailer's daughter whom he had befriended and healed,[18] or both. It was a note that read "From your Valentine."[17]

Now, there are many factors that lead to my partial dislike for this holiday.
  1. Hubby's birthday is the day previous. Some people would see this as a cop out, but my brain can't handle all of the celebrations. It's hard enough for me to work up birthday ideas. As we know it's not fair for the man to do all the work.
  2. I'm not a fan of roses. They are now the North American symbol of this holiday. I've already seen my fair share of overpriced, browned, and wilting flowers of this nature. No thanks!!
  3. I love my Man EVERY DAY!!! Why not celebrate on a day where you can actually go out for dinner without a reservation. Like the 15th of February. Great day for dinner dates :)
Top three confided, there are other reasons I dislike this holiday. I'll spare you the details.

I just had the best one of my life today.

Alanis is singing to me right now!

I can't be mad at a holiday when the hubby went all out.

I came home and was NOT allowed in the front door until a blindfold had been securely attached to my face. Also it smelled fabulous! Someone had been working on their awesome cooking skills.

There were candles, and flowers and perfectly cooked asparagus. One also can't forget the butter mushrooms. Mmmmmmmmm!

I also got to have a sit down conversation with someone who I hadn't really talked to like that in awhile. What a perfect evening. All I had to do was help with the dishes. I love doing that because I have OCD issues regarding the loading of the dishwasher.

LOL

I have to go prepare for a principal review now. I think I'll get some more reading done. Way too much waking up in the night this morning. Every hour, on the hour for 4 hours is a bit redundant. Stupid brain.

Here's to your Valentine's, whichever way you like it. (or hate)

Teachers' Convention

I came, I saw, I listened to people.

It is an amazing feat to squish 18 boards of teachers into the shaw conference centre, westin, citadel and other venues. I love teachers' convention. I get to see my two favourite Randy's. One is a spokesperson for Morgex and the other is the owner (I think) of Capital Estate Planning. They're at all the teacher events and I've known them since I was in grade 7. And they like to talk to me, or they let me talk at them. It's nice.

I also have primo knitting time. My most enjoyable sessions to attend are the keynote or feature speakers. I like to just listen to what they say and my favourite way to focus is to knit. I get oodles of knitting done and I get to learn about fascinating subjects. I saw Dr. Phil (McRae not McGraw) who is an ATA employee that studies the impact of technology on schools. Some very interesting studies going on right now. I had the privilege of seeing Amanda Lindhout, the journalist who was kidnapped in Sudan. She had amazing insight into her capture and she shared her revelations about forgiveness. I cannot believe how strong she was. The last speaker of the day was Michael Kerr, a comedian. He shared how it is possible to bring humour into your workplace and how important it is to laugh at yourself.

EDIT: Totally forgot that I saw the ATA president, Carol Henderson, and the Education Minister, Dave Hancock. Very interesting session. And Carol recognized me after. I feel Ashamed.

I also got 3 repeats done on my never ending Nancy Bush shawl. I probably have 2000 yards to go still. (eeps)

I had lunch with my mommy today. I love getting time to see her. My mom is a fabulous, driven and successful individual and I sometimes forget to tell her how proud of her I am. She is very inspiring to me. And she's going to try to get her Ph.D. in education. I am very lucky to have such a wonderful mom.  I hope she remembers to check my blog. I like bragging about my family.

Speaking of family, the husbeast just got a promotion (kinda) at work and it's his birthday this weekend. I have super surprises for him and I hope he enjoys getting a year older.

It's time to go clean the house so we don't portray that we're dirty people.

See some of you soon!
