I came, I saw, I listened to people.
It is an amazing feat to squish 18 boards of teachers into the shaw conference centre, westin, citadel and other venues. I love teachers' convention. I get to see my two favourite Randy's. One is a spokesperson for Morgex and the other is the owner (I think) of Capital Estate Planning. They're at all the teacher events and I've known them since I was in grade 7. And they like to talk to me, or they let me talk at them. It's nice.
I also have primo knitting time. My most enjoyable sessions to attend are the keynote or feature speakers. I like to just listen to what they say and my favourite way to focus is to knit. I get oodles of knitting done and I get to learn about fascinating subjects. I saw Dr. Phil (McRae not McGraw) who is an ATA employee that studies the impact of technology on schools. Some very interesting studies going on right now. I had the privilege of seeing Amanda Lindhout, the journalist who was kidnapped in Sudan. She had amazing insight into her capture and she shared her revelations about forgiveness. I cannot believe how strong she was. The last speaker of the day was Michael Kerr, a comedian. He shared how it is possible to bring humour into your workplace and how important it is to laugh at yourself.
EDIT: Totally forgot that I saw the ATA president, Carol Henderson, and the Education Minister, Dave Hancock. Very interesting session. And Carol recognized me after. I feel Ashamed.
I also got 3 repeats done on my never ending Nancy Bush shawl. I probably have 2000 yards to go still. (eeps)
I had lunch with my mommy today. I love getting time to see her. My mom is a fabulous, driven and successful individual and I sometimes forget to tell her how proud of her I am. She is very inspiring to me. And she's going to try to get her Ph.D. in education. I am very lucky to have such a wonderful mom. I hope she remembers to check my blog. I like bragging about my family.
Speaking of family, the husbeast just got a promotion (kinda) at work and it's his birthday this weekend. I have super surprises for him and I hope he enjoys getting a year older.
It's time to go clean the house so we don't portray that we're dirty people.
See some of you soon!
